Woman Switched At Birth Races Against Time To Finally Meet Her Dying Bio Dad 40 Years Later

It sounds like an urban legend, but babies really have been switched at birth, with some families never realizing the truth. Hospitals have even created new technology and procedures to try to keep this from happening. But those new updates came much too late for these two women...

A woman named Tania was born in 1978 and grew up in the Republic of Moldova. She had a loving family, but her parents would always hear side chatter from those in their community. Tania didn't look like her parents or siblings, and the gossip mill ran wild. However, she and her family continued to live happily, with Tania completely oblivious to any rumors...

Something's Not Right

Tania went on to move to the U.S. with her siblings when she was 21. She got married, had a family of her own, and was happy. Yet, in Tania's heart, she felt like something was still off with her family. She couldn't exactly figure it out, though. However, everything would soon come to light...

An Unsettling Story

Years later, Tania got a call from her mother-in-law, who was from the same area in Moldova. Her mother-in-law told her that it was a possibility that Tania was switched at birth! Completely shocked, Tania called her father to ask. He was also taken by surprise and decided to look into the matter personally...

Doing The Research

Tania's father did a little digging and discovered some interesting news. He found the names of another family in Moldova who welcomed a baby girl on the same day Tania was born and at the same hospital. In August 2017, Tania found a woman on Facebook who matched the profile!

Looking for Answers

Tania found a woman by the name of Valentina Suman who was also born on March 27, 1987. Tania messaged her and tried to explain the situation. Valentina thought it was a complete joke. She wanted Tania to meet her in Russia to talk about it in person, but Tania couldn't afford a ticket. So then Valentina came up with another idea that would get them the answers they needed...

Turning To Reality TV

Valentina reached out to a Russian TV show that helped reunite long-lost families. She explained her and Tania's situation to producers, and they immediately wanted the two women on the show. The show allowed the two women to take a DNA test to discover the truth. The results would stun everyone!

The Results

The women both flew to Moscow to get the results of the DNA tests in September 2017. They were surprised to find out that Valentina's parents, Alexandra and George Suman, were Tania's birth parents. Of course, that meant that Tania's parents, Nikolay and Vera Lashtur, were really Valentina's. How would the two women react to this shocking truth?

A New Reality

Though shocked, the only family that Tania knew assured her that they still loved her just the same. Tania's brother, Anatoliy, even told her, “The only difference is we gain a sister and you gain like three sisters and more brothers." That was encouraging to Tania, who wanted to meet her biological family. She would, but not before tragedy struck...

Meeting New Relatives

Tania flew to meet her biological parents Alexandra and George. She especially wanted to see George, who was critically ill. However, while she was in the air, George sadly passed away. Tania never had the chance to meet him. However, she was able to attend his funeral, and meet her mother and other siblings. Tania found, though, that her birth mom was in dire straits...
