For some reason, society at large is always fascinated with twins and triplets. This is one reason why the Dahm triplets, or three identical sisters named Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn have been turning heads for years. Triplets that are all the same sex and look identical is quite rare - there are usually some differing characteristics among the three, but not with the Dahm triplets. The sisters also have very similar personalities, with all of three of them pursuing the same career together. They all look exactly the same and their lives even reflect that perfectly. But what’s their story?
Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn were born just minutes apart from each other in December of 1977. While their parents knew they were having triplets, they were shocked when the doctor showed them three identical baby girls. With blonde hair and blue eyes, the girls were beautiful but literally impossible to tell apart. Their parents had to tattoo small dots onto each triplet’s bottom so they could know who was who. Born first, Nicole has one dot, born second, Erica has two dots, and born third, Jaclyn has three dots. Raised in Jordan, Minnesota, the triplets had a normal and happy smalltown childhood - well, as normal a childhood as you can have when everyone knows you but no one can tell you apart from your sisters.
Growing up, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn did everything together and even had the same aspirations. Nicole says that even today “We rarely hold our own identity. We were always known as ‘You three’ or ‘The Triplets’”. When the triplets were just 16 years old, they were even scouted by a modeling agency and featured on the cover of Teen Magazine in 1994. They were the winners of the “Great Model Search”, which didn’t come as much of a surprise to their friends and family. With the girls matching blonde hair and blue eyes, they look very striking together - especially when they’re wearing the same outfit and style their hair the same way! It was clear that they could have a very successful modeling career.
As Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn grew older, however, they decided that they wanted something more out of life. They enjoyed modeling, but wanted a more meaningful career where they could help people and change lives. All three of the young women went to the University of Minnesota and enrolled in nursing programs. While on campus one day, the girls noticed a flyer for Playboy’s “Girls of the Big Ten” modeling search. Feeling adventurous, the girls decided to call the number on the flyer. When they met up with the modeling agent, they were immediately offered a test shoot. After some contemplation, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn all decided that they would be willing to do a nude shoot for the famous Playboy magazine.
The girls were hesitant at first - they were nursing students and didn’t plan to become full time models, let alone nude models. However, they decided to just take a chance and go for it. Jaclyn explained that “we would never have done this (modeled for Playboy) as individuals” and that their solidarity as sisters was very important. Their shoot went very well, and Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn were the second ever triplets to be featured in Playboy’s centerfold. Their photos turned out to be a huge success - people loved the Dahm triplets. People loved them so much that the sisters decided they would drop out of the University of Minnesota and try their luck at a full time modeling career. They even move to Los Angeles, California and said goodbye to their small town.
Erica recalls that “Playboy was what started me and my sisters’ lives...It’s something I wouldn’t change for the world, and [it was] an amazing experience”. Now in California, the Dahm triplets found even more success. In 1999, they starred in an episode of Boy Meets World, playing sisters who lived in a dorm room near Jack and Eric. Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn were also featured in other issues of Playboy and even made the cover of Playboy Australia in 1999. The young women were even on an episode of Family Feud with their parents and older sister, winning over $10,000. They appeared on the gameshow House Wars with their father, where they had to gut, renovate and redesign a house. They won this show too and were able to keep the house they just designed.
The triplets struck the iron while it was hot and appeared on Renovate My Family next. The reality show was hosted by Jay McGraw, the son of the popular Dr. Phil. Jay and Erica had a special connection that she called “love at first sight”. He liked her so much that he found the courage to knock on her trailer and ask her on a date to watch a movie together. In 2006, the couple decided to tie the knot and get married in Beverly Hills. Erica and Jay wrote their own vows and almost everyone cried when the two said “I do”. Not surprisingly, Nicole and Jaclyn were joint maids of honor and wore matching dresses. Jay even gave Erica a beautiful five carat wedding ring with emeralds and diamonds.
Jay and his father are producers of The Doctors, a popular medical talk show, and it seemed only right to ask the twins if they would be willing to come on the show and talk about their lives. Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn jumped at the opportunity and became regulars on the show, talking about their lives and health as triplets. In one episode, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn even took a take home DNA test to test its accuracy. Surprisingly, the test confirmed that the women were all identical and related to one another but gave each of them different ancestry results, which shocked many viewers and revealed the inaccuracy of DNA testing.
By the end of 2009, all of the Dahm triplets had settled down and were married. Nicole had married a man named Michael Kelly and Jaclyn had married a man named Billy Dolan. All happy and in love, the girls decided to have a baby and they even had to do that together. All three of the Dahm sisters got pregnant around the same time. This led to them making even more appearances on The Doctors where they discussed DNA, pregnancy issues, and how similar they expect their children to be with one another. The sisters said that “It’s only natural to want to have kids together” and were even excited at the possibility of having twins or even triplets. While the chance of them having identical triplets themselves is pretty rare, it could happen.
In January, February, and March of 2010, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn all gave birth to healthy baby girls - they even all gave the girls the middle name Elizabeth. The girls have a bright future ahead of them with such a loving and supportive family. Erica’s husband Jay even said that “[My parents] love her almost as much as I do”. The Dahm triplets are willing to support their children in whatever they want to do - although they planned to be nurses, they don’t regret changing their minds and going into the entertainment industry. Across the crazy journey that Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn have had, they all agree that doing it as a family was their one saving grace. It is understandable that Identical triplets would have an unshakable bond!
The public couldn’t believe the Dahm women had got pregnant at the same time and given birth to all girls - what were the odds? Jaclyn explained that it “must be that triplet bond”. Now all mothers, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn related to each other more than ever before and depended on one another to help raise their daughters. Things got even crazier, however, when all three sisters got pregnant at the same time again. This time, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn all gave birth to baby boys in 2012, 2011, and 2013. So now each of the Dahm triplets have one son and one daughter. All of their children often play together, which Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn often describing themselves and their husbands as one big extended family.
Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn have always been lucky - triplets are much less common than twins, and triplets that look identical and are all the same sex are almost never born. While triplets usually have a strong bond, they can grow apart as they get older and embark on different careers. The fact that Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn all wanted to become nurses and go to the same college was amazing. The fact that were all also willing to do a nude Playboy shoot and embark on a modeling career is even more uncanny. The girls also have very similar tastes and personalities, which doesn’t usually happen. Even though triplets may look alike, one typically has a different personality type. Not the Dahm sisters, however - they’re identical in almost every way.
Now 40 years old, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn are enjoying motherhood and spending time with their families. The sisters often go on vacation with their husbands and families, as documented on their social media. Erica reflected on her and her sisters’ success - “It’s something you never experience when you’re from a small town of 2,000 people, and all of a sudden you’re in a magazine all around the world”. As much as they loved their hometown in Minnesota, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn have grown to love the Hollywood lifestyle and being in the spotlight. The Dahm triplets have also said that they would love to do another Playboy feature, so who knows what the future holds. The public seems to love them as much as they did in 1994.
Who would have thought that identical triplets from a small town in Minnesota would end up being in a Playboy centerfold? Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn are so identical that their parents had to give each of them differing tattoo dots on their bodies when they were babies. Similar in every way, the girls grew up together, attended the same college, and even decided to give up their nursing aspirations and become models and reality tv stars. They even got pregnant together and had baby girls and baby boys within just a few months of each other. Today, Nicole, Erica, and Jaclyn are closer than ever and still doing everything together.
